There are many benefits to storing your data in the cloud. The most common include: scalability, faster website speed/performance, portability and the cost advantage of not having to invest in hardware or the software that manages it.

However, storing your data in the cloud does not lessen a company’s risk of data being hacked. According to McAfee, “…Cloud computing presents many unique security issues and challenges. In the cloud, data is stored with a third-party provider and accessed over the internet. This means visibility and control over that data is limited.” In other words, security in the cloud is a shared responsibility. The cloud provider is generally responsible for the security of the cloud itself, and the cloud customer (you) is responsible for protecting the data they store in the cloud.
