Client Story: RoboDX™️
Enabling Secure Data Exchange for a Criminal Justice Information System
KG Hawes partnered with a local government entity to address a variety of key issues surrounding their Criminal Justice Information System. The information system processes a large volume of highly confidential community data for the courts, medical facilities, police, and fire departments which are shared at both the state and federal levels. The following post will identify how RoboDX, our cutting-edge data exchange technology, was able to meet the needs of this government system and offer our client a comprehensive solution in a single application.
Challenging Circumstances
Considering the sensitive nature of the data, sheer volume, and frequency of transfers, the data exchange solution would need to have robust security features in order to maintain the kind of regulatory standards that a city government must adhere to. Information systems of this type must pass regular Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliance audits. It also must be fully compatible with a variety of third-party formats; there is no standard for file type or management systems across local, state, or federal governments. And finally, working with the city’s Criminal Justice Information System presented additional challenges for our team as only their in-house certified engineers could be given direct access to the network.
Savvy Solutions
We knew our data exchange tool, RoboDX, could handle the needs of the city’s system. RoboDX employs a multi-layered encryption and authentication process capable of offering the high-level security that the Criminal Justice Information System required. RoboDX can be housed on-premise or in the cloud. In this case, the security requirements of the customer mandated they host their data on-premise and RDX provided them with that flexibility
RoboDX’s integrated Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) tool eliminates compatibility headaches by extracting and cleaning incoming data and transforming it into the preset preference. This was an efficient fix to the challenges that the city system was facing with the steady influx of documentation from a number of varied agency systems. With the implementation of RoboDX, the city could now integrate seamlessly with third-party systems, handle any file type, and transform all their data into a single preferred format.
Since we knew RoboDX was capable of tackling the challenges with the existing system, the only thing left was to handle implementation without network access. After careful planning, our team was able to assist the city through a remote connection. This worked to the client’s advantage in the long run as once we had established a secure connection we were able to harden the on-site server, further strengthening their data security. The implementation was quick and painless, and the city’s data security and exchange concerns were alleviated with a single application.
